Acolyte Of Torm Image

You have spent your life in the service of a temple of Torm, the god of duty and loyalty, revered by those who face danger to bring about a greater good.  You act as an intermediary between the realm of the holy and the mortal world, performing sacred rites and offering sacrifices in order to conduct worshipers into the presence of the divine.  Those who favor Torm believe that one’s salvation can be found through service, that every failure to perform one’s duty diminishes Torm, and that every success adds to his luster.  Those who take Torm to heart must strive to fulfill his commandment to go out into the world and be an active force for good, to right wrongs, and to help the hopeless.

You were raised from childhood to assist the clerics and paladins who serve as Torm’s priests in the sacred rites.  You may have been an orphan who was taken in by the church as an act of charity.  Or you may have been the child of devoted followers of Torm who sent you to the church as an adolescent or young adult to be instructed by the priests.  Either way, as part of your service, you received both physical and spiritual training, putting you on the path to become one of Torm’s faithful and a sword arm of justice.

Cleric and paladin priests of Torm are organized as a military force with a strict hierarchy based on a combination of seniority and proven skill at both arms and divine magic.  They train constantly, when they are not out fulfilling Torm’a commandments in the world.  As part of Torm’s tenet of service, they frequently serve alongside and coordinate their activities closely with local authorities, as long as those authorities continue to be a force for good.  In such areas, clerics and paladins of Torm can be found accompanying local military units on routine patrols and in battle.  In areas where the local authorities are not a force for good, the Church of Torm actively opposes evil rulers, whether legitimate or not, and cooperates with neutral ones only when doing so serves the cause of righteousness.  All clerics of Torm choose the War domain and all paladins of Torm swear the Oath of Devotion.

Most temples dedicated to Torm are fortresses built on heights.  These structures offer austere quarters for residents and visiting knights, drilling grounds, and stables.  White granite, lion statues, and armored figures predominate in the architecture, with the coats of arms of fallen heroes decorating the walls of the great halls.  Worshipers of Torm come from most walks of life, for he welcomes any who seek the best in themselves to keep evil from gaining ascendency in the world.  Many, but not all, acolytes of Torm eventually train to become clerics or paladins or Torm.  The rest generally pursue more traditional careers as artisans, merchants, or soldiers.
